I use a big old Sanyo air purifier I bought from woot. I don't think it does much except make lots of noise when on high. I've never changed/cleaned the filter in years and just checked it and looks pretty clean.
Air filter? Yeah. I use a HEPA one because otherwise I wouldn't breathe during certain months without borderline abusing Claritin-D in Los Angeles. The best is how I have to replace the filter a month a earlier than the recommended time.
I understand if you have allergies or are in a really bad air quality zone, but I always found air purifiers to be a waste of money and potentially bad for you. If you live in a 100% sanitary, clean environment, how are you going to handle it when your body confronts even the slightest bit of questionable air purity? If it's unnatural, fair point, but it's like people who use hand sanitizer too much... Sooner or later it starts harming the good bacteria and makes you even more susceptible to germs.
I'm outside, in the fresh air a lot (golf), so I see no use in purifying the inside air. Cooling it, yes, but if the a/c filters don't get the particles, a small "air filter" won't.
I use one in the bedroom for my allergies. Sadly, the reviews on this one are not very good. Any recommendations for a new one? I'd like to replace mine soon.
So, an overwhelming number of Mehbecites believe in inhaling everything life has to offer. Fascinating! I do too, though I do far less when I'm walking near a freshly fertilised field. -=C=-
I moved my Mom down here from Austin to assisted living in the spring and she was miserable with allergies. For Mother's Day I got her a good brand air purifier with ionizer rated for about twice her living space and the allergies immediatey cleared up. I was skeptical of the things, especially the voodoo-seeming ionizer. But it was pretty convincing seeing how much better she feels. Now I just have to remember to change the filter regularly. How often do you guys change yours?
Manufacturer recommends every 6 months & that's what I get give or take a few days. I also vacuum the filters every couple weeks. It adds to the unit's efficiency & the filter's "life span".
"Fan death" Genius!!
meh.
Meh is clearly pandering to the large South Korean mother contingent that has been visiting the site lately.
Just breathe...

That's not how lungs work. If that made sense, smoking cigarettes would be healthy for you.
I'm not talking about mainlining soot, I'm talking about normal allergens.

I've been using Blueair units w/the smokestop filters for several years now. They're pricey but extremely effective.

I use a HEPA. Not sure if it's more for the white noise or for my allergies. Either way I sleep.
